In MovieRecorder you can set the number of audio channels and their configuration in:
- the settings of the source (set there only the number of audio channels received by the source)
- the AVPreset (se the number of audio channels being recorded in the file, their mapping and their configuration). This allows to have different audio settings for each destination.
Set the number of audio channels received by the source
In the sources settings, you can set how many channels will be handled by the source. This allows to use just the number of audio channels being received and can be pretty useful for external audio sources where many audio channels can be received, and you don't want to receive them all. Indeed the more audio channels are handled by the source, the more resources are used, so make sure to select just the number of audio channels you need.
Note that it is not yet possible to map audio in the sources, you can only select the number of audio channels, starting from the first source. Mapping is only possible in the AVPresets.
Create a User Preset
Go to the MovieRecorder > Preferences > AV Presets. Recommended AV Preset can not be modified, so to edit one, create a user preset, either by clicking on the + icon, or by duplicating an existing one. For that, right-click on it in the list on the left and select "Duplicate" from the popover menu, or simply click on the "Duplicate" button at the bottom of the pane:
Modify the Audio Settings
Click on the "Audio" button to open the Audio settings pane
In these Audio Settings you are able to change:
- the number of tracks that you want to record.
- the settings of each track, including the number of audio channels for each
You can either have one track with multiple channels inside one track, or have multiple tracks, also with multiple audio channels. There are a lot of possibilities, and the type of setting you apply will depend on the solution that you will use to play these files. Check which one best suits your needs.
About the 'Track Languages' option
At the top of the pane, the 'Track Languages' option will set if each track will be assigned with a language. This is helpful for multi languages video, where each track is a different language. If you are not using multi lingual audio, we recommend disabling that option as some software may then only show one audio track.
Change the number of Audio Tracks
- Click on the + icon at the bottom of the list to create additional tracks,
- Select a track and click on the - icon to delete it.
Change the settings of each audio tracks
If you click on the little "wheel" on each track to change these settings:
- Codec: Linea PCM or AAC
- Sample Size: 16, 20, 24 32
- Little or Big Endian
And if you click on the other "list" icon, you can change:
- the number of audio channels that are recorded per track and for each channel:
- change the mapping: select which channel from the source (your video device) must be recorded in that specific channel
- change the label: Left, Right, Center,...
For 5.1, simply delete the second track, and set the first track to use 6 channels. That should be it... If you have some specific mapping and label, you can change it there too.
