When and why should you migrate your activations?
As the new copy protection uses a completely different system, activations done with the old system are not compatible with the new one. So if you have made an old activation, and then start an application version that uses the new copy protection system, the activation will not be valid for that application, but we will show you a warning offering you to "Migrate" your activation.
Note that this migration is a migration of the activation, and it can be done on a serial number that has already been added to your account in "Softron License Manager".
The migration process will also add the license to your account if it was not already added.
From where can you migrate your activations?
The "automatic" migration will happen in your Softron application, on the computer where the old activation is still valid. You can not do a migration in the "Softron License Manager" platform in a web browser.
Note that if you prefer, you can also do a "manual" migration (see at the end of this article)
How to migrate your activations?
When you will start for the first time an application version that uses the new copy protection system, we will check if there are old activations valid for this application. If there are, a warning window will prompt you to migrate those serial numbers to the new activation system:
- Click on “Migrate to New Activation” to begin the migration process. (see next section)
- Click on “Cancel (Run in Demo)”, to start this application in demo mode. Indeed, the license will remain activated with the old activation system, but is not compatible with this version. You will only be in DEMO mode in all the application versions that uses the new copy protection system. If you quit and start an older version, you will still have your activations.
- More info… Brings you to our support desk.
Note that the warning will only be displayed once. If you do not migrate immediately, you will still be able to migrate using a migrate button in the "Application Licenses" window.
Migrating your activations
After you have clicked on “Migrate to New Activation” the following window will show the license(s) ready to migrate.
Click on “Migrate” and that’s it!
Your activation is now valid with the new system. And the serial is now added to your account (if it was not already there).
Troubleshooting
Can't Migrate Status
When opening the migration window, the migration status may show for some serials a "Can't Migrate". This status is given after a check of the activation status in our server, we check if the license can be migrated and we detected an issue:
There could be different reasons:
- The serial is already "owned" by another account
- The serial or activation has expired
- The serial was killed
- There are other activations running for the serial
- ...
You can try again, and if the issue persists, contact Softron Support and make sure to indicate the error code you are seeing when hovering your mouse over the status badge.
Migration Failed
If you were able to click on the "Migrate" button, but then after that, the status shows "Migration Failed", it means that there was an issue while trying to do the migration.
You can try again, and if the issue persists, contact Softron Support and make sure to indicate the error code you are seeing when hovering your mouse over the status badge.
Don't see any migration option
If you believe your serial number(s) are still activated on older applications in that computer but do not appear in the list, you can still do a "manual" migration. See below. If that still does not work, please contact the Softron Support team for assistance.
Doing a "manual" migration
The "automatic" migration procedure above has been done to make your life easier. But you may want to do it yourself. For that you can use the following procedure:
- Start an application version that does NOT use the new copy protection system
- Deactivate the serial in the old system
- Add the serial to your account
- Activate the serial with the new activation system
